The Battle that Never Was (Versus) is one of the Public Events in Fallout 76. Public Events are quests that provide unique rewards during the available time the event is active. They are basically community quests that can be taken on by anyone (not just those in your party) on the server, as long as they're nearby.
The Battle that Never Was (Versus) Objectives
- Find Pickett's Fort Curator
- Speak to Pickett's Fort Curator
- Choose a side of the American Civil War
- (Optional) Choose Confederate
- (Optional) Choose Union
- Speak to your party's respective guide
- Eliminate the opposition

The Battle that Never Was (Versus) Walkthrough
The Great War
Head to Pickett's Fort and look for the Pickett's Fort Curator at a picnic table. He'll tell you that a reenactment of the American Civil War is taking place there and then tells you to pick one of the two parties to side with. You can find the Union camp in the fort above the area you're currently in; the Confederate camp will be in the parking lot to your left.
When you pick a party, go over to the respective location marked on the map. Once you enter the space, you'll join the party and the guide will narrate you into battle. Follow the objective marker up to the Union camp and unleash your assault against the Union machines, on it.
The Battle
The fight will mainly consist of taking on robots of the opposition camp, however, other players may also join the battle either as allies or foes. So the experience may vary, depending on who you go into it with.
Defeat all members of the opposing party to complete this event.
