The Motherlode is a Quest in Fallout 76. Quests are objectives that the player may complete to obtain special rewards for their participation in the wasteland activities.

Misc Quest
To activate this quest, you'll need to complete the miscellaneous quest that prompts on your arrival at Hornwright Industrial Headquarters. All you need to do is to read the archived messages at the Terminal, at the entrance.
Corporate Ladder
From the Terminal, ascend to the second floor to access Penelope Hornwright's Terminal, then look for the "Archived Message - 9.30.77"entry to uncover the Hornwright HR Password. Once you do this, continue up to the third floor to enter the Human Resources Department. Upon arriving look for the filing cabinets to find the ID Card Printer on top of them, and use it to make yourself an Executive Key Card -but first, you need to get the position!
To do this, head next door to find a couple of Hiring System Terminals. Get on one and take the exam. Feel free to test yourself by legitimately taking the test, however if you'd rather not, the answers are as follows:

After surely acing the exam, return to previous room to finally acquire your Senior Executive ID.
Big Time
With your ID in hand, head down to the bottom floor and take the elevator to the executive floor. Here, enter the room on the left and you'll find a couple of External Connection Systems and a short set of steps. Inspect one of them to be given the task to find a Repair Beacon, then head up the stairs to look for a red Computer Terminal. Access the "Power Struggles" entry to learn the Repair Beacon Acquisition Code.
Take this code and enter it into a keypad opposite the red Terminal, to receive a Repair Beacon on the left. Head across the floor to the room at the end. Here you'll find a laser grid elevator. Take it to a room with a yellow Beacon Launcher, where you'll need to place the Repair Beacon. After this, a giant machine called "Motherlode" will pop up from the ground then return under.
Head up to the stairs and use the Docking Station Dispenser to acquire some Ultracite Ore and the rest of the quest rewards.
