Fallout 76 Damage Types refers to the different attack and defense capabilities of players and enemies in the game. You've carefully considered the damage values of all your weaponry choices, but have you thought about the type of damage they deal? There are five different types of damage in Fallout 76 and each of them has its own special time to shine.
Some weapons deal multiple types of damage, such as dealing both Ballistic and Energy damage at once. Check out each of the five types of damage, their strengths and weaknesses, and the weapons you can use to deal each type below:
Ballistic Damage in Fallout 76
Ballistic damage is probably the type of damage you'll be dealing most of: it's the most commonly found type of damage on weapons and is most easily thought of as simple 'physical' damage - what would happen if you got shot with a normal bullet.
Most guns deal Ballistic damage, even if they also deal Energy or Radiation damage as their primary damage type. Some enemies have resistance to ballistic damage and when fighting these, it's a good idea to try a weapon with Energy or Radiation damage, but otherwise, a simple Ballistic weapon is generally a safe bet.

Poison Damage in Fallout 76
Poison damage deals somewhat less harm to your enemies in its initial attack, but also applies a damage-over-time effect to those you hit. This can be very effective when used to weaken your enemy while you line up the perfect kill-shot.

Radiation Damage in Fallout 76
Radiation damage is particularly helpful when fighting against other players in PvP mode, as it reduces their HP pool until they remove the effect by using a RadAway. Bombarding an enemy with Radiation damage can help you take down enemies with a health advantage.
Tip: All melee and unarmed weapons can become Radiation damage-dealing weapons by the application of the Perk Card Overly Generous.
